Thamsanqa Sangweni has been brilliant for Chippa United this season but the Empangeni-born midfielder insisted that he can still improve.
Sangweni was voted as Man of the Match on Saturday, 17 December for his exploits against Highlands Park.
His calmness, ability to pass long and short and his tenacity in the middle of the park makes him one of the best midfielders in the country.
“I think I can still do more,” said the soft spoken midfielder pouring water on suggestions that he is playing his best football this season.
“I do all I can to contribute to the success of the team but this is not possible without the support from amajita (my teammates).
“I am getting lot of support from my teammates and the Technical Team has been equally fantastic.
“I do not think I am playing my best football yet. There are areas of my game that need polishing, and I work hard everyday to improve. I believe that I can do more.
Sangweni highlighted the importance of the win Saturday; “We have been going through a rough patch of late, and it was important for us to win against Highlands Park. We came up against a good team, but we must move on from that, as Ajax Cape Town away will be even more difficult,” continued Sangweni.
He still has fond memories of the short stint with Ajax Cape Town; “They were good to me. I am forever grateful. That will go out the window on Wednesday though. We are hunting for points,” he added with a smile.
The Chippa United midfield has looked solid following the return of Sandile Zuke.
“He is a seasoned footballer and we welcome his return to the side. He knows the Chippa way, and it’s been good to share the pitch with him again.
“We have lot of talent in the Team though, and I enjoy partnering with anyone given the nod. We all have one objective, to defend the Chippa United badge and we go to Cape Town with the same conviction,” added Sangweni.
Kick off for the game at Cape Town Stadium is at 19h30.
