The Premier Soccer League has confirmed that the kickoff for Absa Premiership season 2016/2017 will be on the Tuesday, 23 August owing to Olympics taking place in Rio, Brazil from August 05 to 21 August 2016.
South African under 23s will be participating in what is the biggest sporting extravaganza in the world.
Meanwhile, Chippa United Chief Operations Officer Lukhanyo Mzinzi said it is all systems go ahead of the opening day, Wednesday 07 July 2016.
“It is a difficult to take time off in football. We obviously had to stay behind as Management to plan for the upcoming season. We need to build from last season’s success. We are aware that a lot will be expected of us this coming season and that makes planning key.
“We already have 80% of the players in Port Elizabeth and we will have a meeting together with Head Coach, Dan Malesela and the Technical Team this afternoon (Tuesday). On Wednesday afternoon we will have our first training session.
“There has been a lot reported in the media as well and in few days we going to make announcements on the acquisitions we have made and the players that have departed,” added Mzinzi further revealing that the Club will also be announcing their preseason plans in due course.
