Chippa United closed the season in style when they brushed aside hosts Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Buyani Sali (17th minute) and Lerato Manzini (66th minute) were on target for the Port Elizabeth based side to ensure they finish on 6th position in the Absa Premiership league log for the first time in the Club’s history.
The Chilli Boys went to the game high on confidence having dispatch Kaizer Chiefs rivals, Orlando Pirates by the same score line 10 days before the season finale.
The hosts, Kaizer Chiefs started brighter of the two sides with former Chippa United midfielder, William Thwala’s and Siphiwe Tshabalala causing problems.
However, the Chilli Boys were the first to break the deadlock through Buyani Sali in the 17th minute following a slick move from the right.
Kaizer Chiefs forced to shoot outside the box first saw George Lebese’s 36th minute strike missing the target and then Erick Mathoho forced Nigerian international to parry away his shot.
Akpeyi who was in good form was on hand to parry another shot from former Chippa United midfielder, William Thwala as the hosts searched for an equaliser.
Chippa United took full control of the proceedings when Lerato Manzini scored from close range to give the visitors 2-0 advantage. The goal followed a beautiful move involving Zeph Mbokoma, Andile Mbenyane and Xola Mlambo who brilliantly set up for Lerato Manzini.
Manzini had an opportunity to extend Chippa United’s lead, but the striker missed the target in the 87th minute with the match ending 2-0 in favour of the Chilli Boys.
The win was first for the Chilli Boys against Kaizer Chiefs.
The game was the last one for captain, James Okwoasa and Erick Chipeta who made a brief appearance towards the end.
