Chippa United will be looking to start the year with a bang at home when they welcome reigning champions, Bidvest Wits at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday, 14 January 2018.

The Chilli Boys are on a high following an emphatic victory away to AmaZulu with one of the “Destruction Boyz” (the new signings) grabbing a brace.

The win saw Chippa United move up the Absa Premiership log table following two consecutive defeats towards the end of 2017.

Head Coach, Teboho Moloi has urged his charges not to read too much to champions current position in the PSL log.

Bidvest Wits is lying in 15th position on the Absa Premiership league log table accumulating 14 points after 15 games while the hosts, Chippa United are in 7th place with 22 points after 16 games.

“Bidvest Wits showed against SuperSport United that they are the reigning champions, and will not just give up. Against SuperSport United they showed their quality and grit and they fought for every ball.  They are going to come to Port Elizabeth with guns blazing,” said Moloi addressing the media at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

“History shows that Bidvest Wits have not lost a game at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, and we will have to be at our best. We cannot afford to underestimate them like we perhaps did against Ajax Cape Town and Polokwane City here during our last game of 2017.

“It is important for us to continue doing well at home. It is unacceptable to lose here in front of our supporters and we will give our best come Sunday,” said Moloi.

Meanwhile the former Orlando Pirates and Jomo Cosmos midfielder praised the signing of Ajax Cape Town midfielder, Bantu Mzwakali; “He gets number 8 jersey,” he said with a smile.

Moloi donned the number 8 jersey at Orlando Pirates during his peak in the late 80s and early 90s where he is now a legend.

“I welcome the arrival of Bantu Mzwakali. He is a player that has shown that he wants to die for the team. We are excited to have him here and he is in the company of his friends, Zephaniah Mbokoma, Ayabulela Konqobe and many others. He is going to add quality to the side and already you can see that most of the players have raised their game in training,” he said.

Chippa United also unveiled youngsters promoted from the MDC Team to the first team; (Gregory “Cafu” Damons – defender – 21 years), (Ayanda Manengele – central midfielder – 20 years), (Xolani Maholo, 21-year-old midfielder who made his debut against AmaZulu last Sunday).

“It is important as a football Club that we promote players from our development and I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to our Head of Development Mr Glen Minnie. He has done a wonderful job in the past couple of years. Xolani Maholo’s debut on Sunday was a reward to him and the staff of the Development team for the effort they have been giving. “I am very proud of all these guys and they will get the opportunity to show what they can do,” saidMoloi confirming they are few more currently training wit the first team.

The Club has announced 50% discount for the tickets for the game on Sunday with adult tickets selling for R20 and tickets for juveniles selling for R10 as part “Back to School Special”.

Tickets are selling like Shamrock pie and the Club has encouraged the fans to come to the stadium in numbers to show love to the players and welcome new on what is the first home game of the year.

Chilli Boys Supporters Package (Chippa United Funeral insurance) will be activating at the stadium while both home and away jerseys will be on sale at Information Centre (through Prince Alfred gate C & D)
