Head Coach, Dan Malesela took charge of his first training session as he put the players through their paces at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in preparation for the upcoming 2016/17 season.
The Pretoria-born coach was joined by his assistant, Mbuyiselo Sambu, Goalkeeper Coach Brain Van Der Heever and Fitness Coach, Madoda Moyo.
“I am pleased to have all the players we have retained last season back at training. There were no late comers and no excuses. We also glad to welcome back Rhulani Manzini who has completely recovered from a bad injury,” said Malesela speaking to chippautdfc.co.za on Friday afternoon.
Dan “Dance” Malesela who guided the ChilliBoys to a respectable 6th position on the league log table last season said there is still lot of work to be done; “As expected most of the players are out of shape, having gained weight over the holiday.”
“In the next two weeks we will be focusing on endurance, strengthening and gradually work on legs and core followed by the upper body.”
There were close to 30 players at the first training session, including a few trying their luck in the blue and white.
“We have couple of players with us for assessment. One area of concern for me is our defence and we will definitely focus on strengthening that department this season.
“We have beefed up the goalkeeping department and from the middle to attack we look good,” added Malesela with a smile.
The head coach expressed his delight at working with the same Technical Team as last season; “They already understand my philosophy, so continuity was key. We have only lost our Physio, Alex Morupa, but have replaced him with Mark Anderson.
The Club is expected to outline the 2016/17 vision and unveil the new players in the next week.
