Chippa United players and Technical Team returned to training on Monday, 09 January 2016 ahead of what promises to be a gruelling second half of the Absa Premiership season.
Welcoming the players was Head Coach, Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela before the players were taken through their paces at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Chippa United are facing an acid test when the season resumes after the Africa Cup of Nations break, with bak-to-back games at home against unpredictable Baroka FC, on Wednesday 08 February and African and current reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns a week later on 14 February 2016.
There were no new players on the first day but the team was boosted by the return to training of Diamond Thopola, Bongani ‘Mango’ Kama, Tshwarelo ‘Gabi’ Bereng, Andile ‘Raul’ Mbenyane, Rhulani ‘Iron Ball’ Manzini and Strydom ‘Umntu Akalahlwa’ Wambi who all missed the last game against Ajax Cape Town.
No. 1 goalkeeper and Nigerian international, Daniel Akpeyi will rejoin the squad on Tuesday morning while Marc ‘Sdumo’ Van Heerden, Siyabonga Ngubane and Vusumuzi ‘Skheshe’ Mncube are still nursing injuries.
Chippa United lost their last game of 2016 away to Ajax Cape Town dropping in the log and currently are lying 11th.
