Chippa United announced the launch of the Jongisizwe Memorial Tournament on Sunday, 24 July at Zimbane village outside Mthatha.
The announcement was made by Chippa United Executive Chairman , Siviwe Mpengesi who was a guest of Zimbane Village AbaThembu Chief, Chief Nosizwe.
Among those in attendance were the Eastern Cape Phumulo Masualle and the entire Chippa United squad led by Head Coach, Daniel Malesela.
The Chilli Boys were welcomed with song and dance while the iMbongi paid a glowing tribute to Ngqamakhwe born, Chippa Mpengesi who defied all odds to start a football club and today one of the fasted growing sporting brands in the country.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce the launch of an annual tournament to start in August this year. The tournament is in honor of the late Nkosi Jongisizwe.
“I thank you Nkosi Nosizwe for hosting me and my team at your home and giving us an opportunity to honor the late chief.
“We are hoping to achieve quite number of things with this initiative among them to revive the spirit of Mthatha Bucks in the OR TAMBO region.
“I grew up a fan of Mthatha Bucks and I know the impact the presence of Bucks made to this community.
“We want to give the youth of Zimbane and its surrounds sporting opportunities. The best player of this tournament will win a contract with Chippa United,” announced Mpengesi receiving huge applause from the guests including Dan Malesela.
“We will announce other details in due course, but my wish is for our coach to be here when the final is played,” added Mpengesi.
The Club handed over 10 sets of kit to the local clubs while the Premier donated blankets to the residents of Zimbane.
