Chippa United has thrown its weight behind Bafana Bafana ahead of their friendly match against Angola to be hosted at Buffalo Stadium, in East London on Tuesday, 28 March 2017.

It will be the first time for Bafana Bafana to play in East London in more than 13 years, when South Africa narrowly lost to neighbours, Zimbabwe in the Cosafa Cup match.

Chippa United in an effort to revive football in the province, decided to play some of their games in East London., The move has paid dividends not only for brand expansion, but ensuring that people in the province from as far as Qumbu, Mt Frere and Lusikisiki are afforded the opportunity to watch top flight football.

“We welcome the decision for SAFA to take this game to East London. This is recognition of our efforts as a football club working with all the stakeholders including SAFA to resuscitate football structures in the province,” said Chief Operations Officer Lukhanyo Mzinzi speaking to on Friday morning.

“Football in this province represents hope for many families in this province and for South African Football Association to bring the game to their doorstep will bring joy to the fans that have been starved international football for more than a decade.

“We call upon all our supporters in the Greater East London Branch and beyond to come in numbers to support Bafana Bafana. The vibe that we have seen in East London for the past couple of months during football matches second to none and needs to be encouraged.

We are delighted that in some way Chippa United has played a role in taking football to the people. The international friendly gives not only the City but the Province an opportunity to show the rest the country and beyond that we are ready and capable of hosting international matches,” added a visibly elated Mzinzi.

Diamond Thopola is the only Chippa United player selected by Caretaker Coach, Owen Da Gama on the 25-man squad for two friendly games.

Bafana Bafana who will lock horns with Guinea-Bissau on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday are expected to touch down in East London on Sunday. Kickoff for the game on Tuesday, 28 March 2017 is at 19h30.
