Menzi Masuku tells that he is having the time of his life in Port Elizabeth and the fans can expect more in the upcoming games.

The soft-spoken midfielder Masuku scored in his debut for the Chilli Boys in the MTN8 quarter final against Platinum Stars, following a well-publicised move from Orlando Pirates. The Kwa-Zulu Natal-born player had just played an instrumental role for Team South Africa at the Rio Olympics 2016 and joined Chippa United just in time for the start of the season. He took time to speak to just before boarding a flight to Johannesburg for a thrilling encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, 28 February 2017. Well done on your Man of the Match performance against Golden Arrows on Friday…

Menzi Masuku: Thanks! It was exciting to win the Man of the Match award but I must admit I was very disappointed that we did not win the game after such a wonderful performance from the team. I thought everyone was superb on the evening but we must focus on the next game now. You have started in three consecutive games since the restart of the season following the Africa Cup of Nations break…

Menzi Masuku: I think I am peaking at the right time after being in and out of the team during the first half of the season. I feel good. My confidence is slowly getting back so is my match fitness. I am excited going about the upcoming games. What has changed between now and the first half of the season?

Menzi Masuku: It took a bit of time for me to settle in Port Elizabeth despite scoring on my first game. I joined the team after the preseason missing a valuable time with both my teammates and the Technical Team. I am now starting to understand my teammates better, what the Coach expects from me and I am now settled at Chippa United. The break helped as I took time to reflect but also work hard to return to my best. There is a long way to go still but I am getting there. On Friday you showed glimpses of your old self; wonderful runs, mesmerising the defenders and you showed high work rate; was that the best of Menzi Masuku?

Menzi Masuku: (long pause and laughter) There is still a lot to learn of course. I do not think I was at my best though because I did not score. I did have good moments but part of my game is the ability to score and I am working on that, one game at a time and the best of Menzi is yet to come! Games are coming thick and fast and on Tuesday it is Mamelodi Sundowns again….

Menzi Masuku: (Smiling) Exciting game! It is always exciting to play Mamelodi Sundowns. The atmosphere is always electrifying against all the big teams and we expect the same at Loftus. I am looking forward to the game so are my teammates.

We want to mix with the best in the League and maintain our top eight position so we must go to Pretoria with belief and fight for maximum points.

The preparations have been going well and we are all excited about the game. We have put the game against Golden Arrows behind us and the focus now is on our next game. How are you finding life in the Nelson Mandela Bay?

Menzi Masuku: It is all good and I am having the best time of my life here. There people are welcoming and the support we getting from the fans have been great. There is a good vibe in the team and we getting lot of support from the Management and everyone associated with the Club. Talking about the vibe in the team; who is the funniest character in the dressing room?

Menzi Masuku: (Pause for a moment) Tough one, this one is going to get me in trouble but the Coach takes the title (Laughing). Coach as strict as he is he has a lighter side on him and his jokes keeps us going. Who is the lead singer in the Team?

Menzi Masuku: Our assistant coach, Sambu! Best Dresser?

Menzi Masuku: Mhmm another difficult one but I have to give it to Katlego (Mashego) What kind of music do you listen to?

Menzi Masuku: I love Hip Hop and Lil Wayne is my favourite artist. Here at home it has to be Nasty C. …so you did watch the Metro FM Awards last Saturday where Nasty C scooped most awards?

Menzi Masuku: No (smiles) Lastly your message to the multitudes of Chippa United supporters?

Menzi Masuku: We appreciate every song and all the support they give us home and away. We strive to give the best every time we step into the pitch because we know how important the Club is to them and it will be the same in the upcoming games. Thank you Menzi for your time and all the best against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Menzi Masuku: You welcome and thank you to you too.
