COO Lukhanyo Mzinzi believes that the Buffalo City Municipality together with Chippa United are ready to host Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, 14 February 2017.

Kick-off for the game is at 19h30 and gates will open at 16h30.

Mzinzi was addressing the media jointly with Executive Mayor Xola Pakathi at East London City Hall on Monday morning; “We are ready to welcome Mamelodi Sundowns and from Chippa United perspective we want to win the game tomorrow.

“We have a good record in this City where in four games we have only drawn one and won four leagues games. We hope the fans will come in their numbers to support the team. I am from a final security meeting and I can assure the fans coming to the game that all the systems will be in place come Tuesday,” added Mzinzi

Executive Mayor Pakathi echoed saying the safety of the people attending the game was key; “for tomorrow’s game it is all systems go as we have met our end of the bargain in terms of insuring that the stadium meets the PSL requirements.”

Pakati also gave a background on the partnership with Chippa United saying, “We noticed that there were no PSL games being played in Buffalo City for a long time. We then decided to engage in conversations with the club to bring some games to this side of the province. We all agreed and the rest is just history,” he added.

The match will help boost the Metro’s economy tremendously especially given the high importance of the game.

The games are going to be very economically viable for the City. “Remember that when people will come here they will pour petrol into their cars and some will sleep over in the hotels and beds and breakfast. So it will be a great spin off particularly in the hospitality sector,” added Pakati.
