Lerato Manzini has revealed to chippautdfc.co.za that he will donate school shoes to his alma mater, Majaho Primary School in Thabong, Welkom on Friday 23 June 2017.
‘Zlatan’ as Manzini is affectionately known in football circles, is home taking some time off after a gruelling 2016/2017 season, where he, along side Rhulani Manzini was a focal point for the Club upfront.
Q: Zlatan, thank you for your time. Tell us about your charity initiative?
A: Greetings. I will be donating school shoes to my former primary school as part of giving back to the community that supported my dreams of playing football.
Q: Why did you choose to do a shoe drive campaign?
A: I was raised by mom in Welkom, and we struggled a lot due to her being unemployed. I did not really have a decent pair of shoes for school. Whenever I go home, I still see a lot of children in my township going to school barefoot and I want to help.
This is obviously a start and I am glad my wife supported the idea from day one. I hope to do more for the community in the near future.
Q: Do you have any sponsors for the initiative?
A: Not at the present moment, but my intention is to approach businesses to help me in the near future.
Q: Why is it important for you to do this?
A: I have always wanted to give something back to the people of Thobong for the support and love they have given me and my family. I want to assist where I can to create a South Africa that our father Nelson Mandela spoke about. It is important for us as footballers to heed the call to give back to our communities that support us.
Q: Thank you for your time and all the best to you and your Family on Friday.
A: Thank you for the platform to talk about this initiative.
