Striker, Katlego “Mahoota” Mashego has revealed that he is enjoying his football at Chippa United.

Affectionately known in football circles as “Mahoota”, Katlego Mashego joined the Chilli Boys for the 2016/2017 league season, and made his debut against Bidvest Wits, at Bidvest stadium, in Johannesburg.

The 34 year old striker, joined the Port Elizabeth-based side as a free agent and signed a 20-month contract (until the end of the 2017/18 season). The Bushbuckridge-born striker left Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2015/2016 season.

Mashego made his debut away at Bidvest Wits early this month and last Saturday he made his home debut when the Chilliboys hosted, when they faced PSL rookies Capetown City. Cape Town city won the game by two goals to one, Mashego scored on his home debut scoring from a penalty kick.

“It’s always a great feeling when you score from your home debut, although we lost the game, I would be feeling very special if we won the game, but such things happen in football you win some, and you lose some,” said Mashego speaking to chippautdfc.co.za

“I’m currently enjoying my few days In Port Elizabeth. I received a warm welcome from the fans, Technical team, and the players.

“We have a stadium that is in good condition, an amazing management who has been welcoming and supportive to me.

Chippa United have gone 5 games without a win, only loosing once at home, the Chilli Boys dominate most of their games in terms of ball possession, but have been battling to convert the chances they create. The striker insisted that this something they need to solve immediately as a team.

“I cannot do anything for the team alone, we need to work together as a team to solve this scoring dilemma, we need to support the Coach and the technical staff as whole, and go back to winning ways. Chippa is not a team with a losing culture,” added Mashego.

Chippa United will be hoping to bounce back when they host Orlando Pirates, on Tuesday evening. Kickoff for what promises to be thrill a minute encounter  is at 19h30.
