Dan Malesela has expressed his delight after it was confirmed he will be back as a Head Coach at Chippa United next season.
Malesela replaces Vladislav Heric who finished the season just outside of a top 8 positions.
Executive Chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi announced that the Serbian-born coach will remain at the Club to manage Club’s development teams.
Speaking to chippautdfc.co.za , Malesela revealed that the discussion between himself and Chairman about coming back to the Club, “took less than a day,”
“I believe in fate, it is what has brought us back together,” said Malesela who celebrated his 52nd birthday on Sunday.
“It was the cherry on top to celebrate my birthday and my comeback to the Club to be confirmed.
” I am grateful to be back. I really appreciate that the Chairman is presenting me with this opportunity again.
“I thought when I left I would be able to move on and join another Club, but God clearly wanted me back in Port Elizabeth with Chippa United,” he said.
“Dan Dance” as Malesela is affectionately known in football circles admitted that the break was ‘bit long”.
“I enjoy working with players on the pitch, but the break helped me to reflect and watch lot of football.
” We can all take lessons from what Pitso (Mosimane) is doing at Sundowns; its impressive. He has taken things to another level and we must emulate his achievements.
Under the tutelage of Malesela, Chippa United became one of the most watched teams in the country playing a Tika-Teka kind of football.
“The approach will be slightly different this time around, with a lot of focus on offensive possession,” said Malesela.
The Club groomed the likes of Xola Mlambo, Paseka Mako, Phetso Maphanga, relatively unknown players that became a success, and Malesela revealed that the Club will continue to unearth fresh talent.
” We must not be satisfied to bring only talented players but this time around we must look deeper and take into consideration the players social and mental aspect.
” We will open bit earlier in preparation for next season and I am going to have a serious conversation with the players.
What did he miss the most about Chippa United during his time away from football ; “I missed the players a lot. A few players called me now and again for advice.
” The people of the province showed me love during my time as Coach and I missed that. Many of them were hurt when I left and now I cannot wait to be back to start repaying them.
” I am all about football ; I love the game and I really missed being on the training field with the players and the ball.
Malesela guided Chippa United to 6th position during 2015/16 season and to the semi-finals the following seasons.
” It’s time to finish what we started. We must improve and maybe reach a final. This team should not fight relegation… We are going to give it our all to make sure we succeed,” he concluded.
