Head Coach, Dan Malesela has revealed to chippautdfc.co.za that the team camp in Cape Town was a resounding success.
The ChilliBoys departed in Port Elizabeth on Sunday, 15 January for a weeklong camp in Cape Town where they got to play no less than five friendly games. Malesela was able to welcome most players that missed the closing games of last year back on the pitch.
“The return of the players that were injured boosted the team and competition in the team,” said Malesela.
“The objective of the camp was to play as many games as possible and we were pleased with the response from the players on the games we played. We were able to look at different combinations. Out of the five games we played we scored in four games.
“We are always looking at building camaraderie in the in the team. The mental aspect also very important and the camp give us an opportunity to focus on those areas.
“It was also pleasing to see the endurance of the players,” reflected Malesela adding that while in Cape Town they were also able to watch MDC Team win against Cape Town All Stars over the weekend.
Malesela though warned that there is still a lot to be done ahead of the opening game of the year against Baroka FC on Tuesday, 07 February at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
“We will be doing lot of work in defence in the next couple of days. We will also focus on attacking and scoring. There is a lot to be done before the next game but the camp helped our preparations for the second round of the season.
Dan Malesela and his Technical Team took the players through their paces for the first time on Tuesday morning at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium following the return to the province on the team on Sunday.
