Chippa United Head Coach, Daniel Malesela has said that his charges are ready to face Free State Stars on Tuesday, 23 August 2016 and the Club will challenge for all trophies on offer this season.
“We are ready to compete, and will challenge for all trophies on offer this season,” said an upbeat Malesela addressing the media during the press conference held at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday, 19 August 2016.
“I am happy that we have the core of the team that finished well last season. If you look at the spine, Daniel (Akpeyi), James, we still have Thami (Sangweni), Manzini (Rhulani), Zulu, Ace (Buyani Sali) and the other guys.
“This is very important but we needed to strengthen and I am delighted with the quality we have brought in. The competition for places is fierce and this is going to push the players to do well.
“We still have couple of days to go before our game and I will be working a lot with the forwards. I don’t want players to make mistakes. I don’t want them to make silly mistakes, they should be forced to make mistakes.
“I also do not want to hope for something to happen so we will work more on the training ground to ensure that we are sharper at the top,” said Malesela highlighting the “top” as his concern going to the opening game.
“We will get it right though it is just small details,” he said.
Chippa United will face Platinum Stars in an MTN8 clash three days after the league opener but “Dan Dance” as the Pretoria born coach is affectionately known in football circles insisted that the focus is on Free State Stars; “I know people want me to talk about cup game but for us really the focus is our first game against Free Stars.
Malesela also gave an update on Daniel Akpeyi currently in Brazil for the Olympics; “We obviously had him with us for couple of days at the top of our preseason but at that time we had not done any tactical work. He will not be ready for Tuesday’s game.
“We have three goalkeepers in Zama (Dlamini), Veli Mothwa and Ayanda Masiko and we should be covered in Daniel’s absence. We would have obviously liked to have him for continuity you don’t really want to make lot of changes at the back and we will get him up to speed with everyone when he comes back.
Malesela also called on the Chilli Boys’ faithful supporters to come in numbers; “It is our home game and we would like the supporters to come in numbers in full song. We appreciate their support, it rubs off on players.”
Kickoff for the game is at 19h30.
Tickets are already on sale at Stadium Office and TicketPro outlets at R40 per adult and R20 for children under 12 years.
