Head Coach, Dan Malesela was disappointed after the Chilli Boys suffered their first home defeat this season, against PSL rookies Cape Town City, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, in Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.
This was the first official game of the season between Chippa United and Cape Town City.
The Port Elizabeth-based side have gone four league games without a win; the Chilli Boys came to the game from a 1-0 defeat away to Bidvest Wits on 1st November.
The Chilli Boys who dominated the game with ball possession could not convert their chances, but Malesela insisted his side must find a solution.
“It’s a game where we needed to take our chances, and had we done so, we would probably be singing a different tune now,” said Melesela addressing the media.
“On the flip side of it is that when you don’t score, you need to make sure that you don’t concede, and when we conceded it put a lot of pressure on us,” added Malesela.
The Chilli Boys enjoyed ball possession, and the Head Coach felt his side should have been more solid at the back.
“If you don’t concede you will never lose games, and there is always a chance that you will get one goal.
“What worries me as well is that, we have to do something to see the ball in the net.
“It’s one thing creating chances and hitting the pole, and it’s another having to get the ball in the net,” said Malesela.
Chippa United will be hoping to bounce back when they host Orlando Pirates, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, on Tuesday night. Kickoff is at 19h30.
