The South African Red Cross Society is a community based humanitarian aid organisation whose goal is to alleviate human suffering. In the Eastern Cape, the society provides support to vulnerable patients that are infected with Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and HIV/AIDS with the goal of creating awareness to reduce the negative role that stigma and discrimination has whilst also providing peer education to in and out of school youth addressing the various social ills they face ranging from substance abuse and teenage pregnancy.

“We are excited about this partnership with Chippa United FC in tackling not only TB and HIV but also the various social ills that the youth of today face. Chippa United FC has taken on a social responsibility role in promoting community development and I believe that together we will strengthen community interventions designed to promote and save the lives and futures of our youth “ says Ruth Mufalali – van Rooyen the eastern cape South African Red Cross Society provincial programs manager.

“The difference between a team and a Football Club is social responsibility. The partnership between the two organisations is a demonstration of our commitment to the social cause. I believe that this partnership between Chippa United and the South African Red Cross is going to give us an opportunity to reach out to the community and most importantly children in the Eastern Cape and beyond its borders. The unique partnership is a first of its kind in South African football”. Says Luthando ‘Trompies’ Zibeko the Chippa Communications and Marketing Manager.

The partnership between the two sides will be launched officially ahead of the Absa Premiership encounter between Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns at Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Tuesday, 14 February 2017 at 19h30.
