An emotional Xola Mlambo has paid a glowing tribute to the Club in its totality following the completion of his move to Bidvest Wits last week.

Mlambo who signed as a free agent in January this year following a stint with Cape Town All Stars, was allowed to join Bidvest Wits after the Milpark based Club put numerous offers prizing the player away from the Chilli Boys.

Executive Chairman, Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi who wished the player well in his new endeavors, later revealed that Mlambo’s transfer is the “biggest in the history of the Club”.

“I am lost for words. I don’t know where to start and what to say, I am just grateful to the Club for welcoming me with open arms in January, and for everything they have done for me,” said a teary Mlambo speaking exclusively to chippautdfc.co.za

“I want to thank the fans not only for the love and welcome they gave me on my arrival, but for the manner in which they cheered us on the pitch.

“It rubbed off on us (players), and in my opinion they are up there with the best (fans) in South African football.

“The singing and their spirit lifted us and in return all we wanted to do as players was to give back to them,” said Mlambo affectionately known in football circles as “Ten-Ten”.

Mlambo on his arrival at Chippa United was handed the no. 42 jersey made famous by one of African greatest talents, Yaya Toure.  Many suggested similarities in the style of the player to that of Yaya.

Modest as ever, and cool as a cucumber, Mlambo chose to express special praise for Chairman Chippa Mpengesi and Head Coach Dan Malesela, rather than entertaine the comparison with one of Africa’s greatest sons; ” I am grateful for the opportunity and the confidence the Chairman and the Coach showed in me.

“They have laid a good foundation for the Club and I have no doubt Chippa United will be challenging for trophies this coming season.

“Lastly I thank my former teammates, who were great from day one.  The reaction from them regarding my departure was astonishing.  My message to the lads is; “Believe”. I wish you all the best.”
