Diamond Thopola’s scintillating form has not gone unnoticed with the Tembisa born right-back receiving a call up from Bafana Bafana Head Coach, Shakes Mashaba for the Africa Cup on Nations qualifier match against Gambia at the Independence Stadium on June 4, 2016.

It is the first call up for Chippa United defender that joined Chippa United from Thanda Royal Zulu ahead of the 2015/2016 season with Coach, Shakes Mashaba insisting; “All the players on the list were selected on merit,”

Speaking to Umhlobo Wenene FM on Friday morning, Thopola expressed his excitement following the news of his call up to Bafana Bafana, “It is an honour and a dream come true to be called up to the national team and I would like to thank my colleagues and everyone at Chippa United for support this season.

“We have been doing quite well as the team and this is a reward for the hard work we have been putting from the beginning of the year. Coach Dan Malesela has been pushing us very hard in training and it shows during games,” said Thopola.

Thopola insisted though that his immediate focus is on the Absa Premiership potential explosive finale against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.

“It is important for one to keep his feet on the ground. We still have one more game to go and we must give our best against one of the top sides in the league.

“People talk about their (Kaizer Chiefs) results  but for us the focus is to continue improving as a Team. We want to give our best every time we don the blue and white of Chippa United and tomorrow it will not be different.

Thopola one of the most outstanding players during the goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs in the season opener said they are ready for the trip to FNB Stadium on Saturday, 21 May 2016.

“We are ready for the game. It will be different to the game we played against Orland Pirates few days back and we need to perform above ourselves to come back with the positive result.

We want to finish as high as possible in the Absa Premiership log table,” added Thopola.

Kickoff for the game at 15h00.
