Executive Chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi has said that the time has come for Chippa United to stand up and be counted.
Mpengesi was speaking during the unveiling of the “Destruction Boys” as Chippa United new signings, Thabo “Jomo” Rakhale, Linda “Figo” Mntambo and Mxolisi “Akanamali” Macuphu have come to be known since their move.
Held at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, the unveiling was attended by Executive Chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi, members of Management, Lukhanyo Mzinzi, Wanda Mbenguzana and Nombasa Zini with Luthando “Trompies” Zibeko as Master of Ceremony.
The Head Coach, Teboho Moloi was also in attendance, as well as the Club Supporters.
“I would like to take this opportunity to once again welcome you to this Football Club, Chippa United.
“We welcome you to what is the fastest growing football brand in the country.
“We believe that now is the time to take this brand to different parts of the continent, and that can mean one thing, finishing strongly and thus qualify to play in the Continental Cup in the 2018/2019 season,” said Mpengesi.
“We have added quality to the side, not quanity as you can see the players we are unveiling today.
“We believe with the current crop of players, and the additions we have made we will achieve our objective to take this brand beyond South African borders.
“This is not the time to say a lot, but to show what we can do on the field of play. I will not sleep until we achieve this dream, and with the support from Management, Technical Team, Players and Supporters we know it is possible,” he continued.
Head Coach, Teboho Moloi has time and again spoken about his ambition to see the Team participating in CAF competition.
“In the past I did not share the same dream with everyone at the Club and this season, the Vision has filtered through to everyone at Chippa United.
” We are all behind this objective, and we will give it our all in order to attain this goal,” he said with supreme confidence.
Mpengesi added that he has been inundated with calls from “Top players” in the country that want to don the blue and white.
“In the past we needed middle man to convince players to come down to Port Elizabeth, I recall for instance when we wanted to bring Joseph Molongoane. We had to do it through a middle man because people did not believe in this project.
“Today it is different, my phone is always ringing as players want to be part of this Club.
“This gives us hope that we are headed in the right direction. It is not an opportunity for us to take the foot off the paddle, but for us to raise our game and put more effort in what we do,” he warned.
On the current season he said, ” We already have 19 points this season and the aim is to double that and see what is going to happen.
“We are on the right track and we have no doubt about our ability to compete and win games in the second round of the season.
“We will give all the needed support to the Technical Team and players to ensure that we create a conducive environment to bring results,” he concluded sending a word of gratitude to the Supporters for the support and love they have shown to the players.
