Head Coach, Dan Malesela has declared his side ready for 2017/2018 season ahead of the trip to Orlando Stadium to face Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 19 August 2017.
Orlando Pirates achieved a double against Chilli Boys in what overall was a disappointing 2016/2017 season for the Port Elizabeth based side.
Malesela though appeared confident about the campaign ahead speaking to chippautdfc.co.za on Thursday after training.
“Based on observation of the training sessions, practice matches and the vibe in the team it’s looking promising,” said “Dance”.
“We used the preseason to on some of the mistakes we committed last season in defense and attack.
“We for instance enjoyed lot of possession but we did not hurt teams by converting the chances we created.
“We were scored based on our mistakes and at times counter attack we worked on that including fitness of the players.
United season was also hampered by lot of injuries at some stage with 12 players injured.
“It was important to work on injury prevention as part of our preparation and for this the was lot of in put from our Physio, Mark Anderson and our conditioning coach, Madoda Moyo,” revealed Malesela.
The Absa Premiership business starts on Saturday and Malesela admitted that it will be tough to play Orlando Pirates at home.
“They are Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium and we should respect that. I watched them during Carling Black Label but they have since changed the coach and will be dangerous.
Malesela said his side must show a fight against Pirates, “We are playing away and that means we should be fighting more than they do. We are ready.
The trip to Orlando Stadium will be a first for the former Orlando Pirates Skipper since 1992 as he revealed.
“I missed the game last season as I was on leave,” he said with a smile.
“I have not been to Orlando Stadium since November 1992 when we played against Bush Bucks.
“Orlando Stadium is where I made my debut against Witbank Aces and I captained Pirates for the first time at Orlando.
“It is a place that hold good memories and I am looking forward going to the now refurbished stadium.
He concluded; “It is all about the game on Saturday though and we do not want to go there and come back to Port Elizabeth with nothing,”
