Head Coach, Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela has told chippautd.co.za that the win against Free State Stars in the league on Wednesday has raised the spirit in the dressing room ahead of the MTN8 quarterfinal encounter away in Rustenburg against Platinum Stars on Saturday, 27 August 2016.
Chippa United who finished in an impressive 6th position for the first time ever will be hoping to turn their cup fortunes around having not won a single cup game since the Club was promoted for the first time during the 2012/2013 season.
“The win midweek has raised the spirit in the camp for sure. We going to Platinum Stars with confidence but we are also aware of the task ahead of us,” said Malesela.
Chippa United are coming from an impressive midweek win against Free State Stars a game Malesela admitted gave him a lot to think about ahead of the MTN8 encounter.
“I picked up a lot of information from the game on Wednesday. It was our first game of the season following preseason but I will not reveal some of the things we picked up but the information is going to help us ahead of the Platinum Stars game.
“It is a cup game, a knockout so we will need to be a lot tighter as compared to our game on Wednesday. In a league game you have time to recover but cup game is once off,” said Malesela.
Malesela has made it clear that the Club is going to challenge for all the trophies on offer this season; “We do not want to just make numbers. We have the team and the determination to fight in each and every game we play in starting with the MTN8.
Platinum Stars left Port Elizabeth with their tails in between their legs the last time the two sides met on the 27 April earlier this year with Lerato Manzini a hero of the day scoring a hat-trick.
Malesela believes the game on Saturday will be a different game; “The game we played back in April does not mean a lot. Stars is playing at home and also coming from moral boosting win midweek against SuperSport United. It is a different ball game.
Kickoff for the game at Royal Bafokeng Stadium is at 15h00.
