Chippa United advanced to the MTN8 semifinals after beating Platinum Stars 2-0 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Dikwena hosted the Chilli Boys in the quarterfinal clash in the city of Rustenburg.
The home threatened first in the third minute when Ndumiso Mabena played a curling corner-kick and Chippa goalkeeper Zama Dlamini punched it away.
However, Rhulani Manzini put the visitors into the lead five minutes later following a mistake by the Stars defence and the striker made it 1-0 to Chippa.
In the 19th minute, Stars captain Vuyo Mere tried to restore parity for his side from a free-kick, but his attempt was punched away by Dlamini.
Dikwena were pressing the Chilli Boys in search of the equalising goal, but Diamond Thopola and his fellow Chippa defenders looked solid at the back.
Stars head coach Cavin Johnson decided to make a tactical change – introducing young Sipho Senne for experienced striker Henrico Botes in the 34th minute.
But Chippa’s Manzini nearly doubled his side’s lead six minutes before half-time when he received a ball near the Stars box and forced Mzimela into a low save.
Six minutes after the restart, Marc Van Heerden’s free-kick found his Chippa teammate Manzini in the Stars box and the latter headed wide of the target.
Stars captain Vuyo Mere sent his teammate Ndumiso Mabena through on goal, but the striker placed his shot wide of the target on the hour-mark.
Chippa head coach Dan Malesela made a double substitution five minutes later – Lerato Manzini and Menzi Masuku came on for Buyani Sali and Manzini.
A cross from the right found an unmarked Andile Mbenyane inside the Stars box and the midfielder hit the upright with keeper Mbongeni Mzimela well-beaten.
However, Chippa substitute Masuku sealed his side’s 2-0 win in the 79th minute when he finished off Thembinkosi Lorch’s cross from the right.
