Chippa United Go back to the Windy City with a point
Highlights from the DSTV Premiership match between Cape Town City and Chippa United at the Cape Town Stadium
Tashreeq Morris led the line for City in place of the suspended Fagrie Lakay, with Ryan Rae, Isaac Nhlapo and Ramasimong Maloisane given their debuts by Chippa coach Lehlohonolo Seema.
Chippa sprung to life following a quiet opening and saw Peter Leeuwenburgh go across his area 18 minutes gone to divert Maloisane’s rasping drive for a corner-kick.
The Citizens nabbed the lead three minutes later when suicidal goalkeeping from Veli Mothwa saw Craig Martin capitalise to set-up Mduduzi Mdantsande for a composed left-footed finish.
The chilli boys still went on to finish the first half the strongest with an overhead kick from Frederic Nsabiyumva forcing Leeuwenburgh to parry.
Despite City leading at the half, Coach Seema gave Akhona Manqola a debut.
The Chilli Boys scored an equalizer on the 53 minutes after Augustine Kwem pounced on poor defending from the home side to beat Leeuwenburgh from point-blank range. In the end, a point apiece was enough to give the two sides a decent start to their top-flight campaigns.
