Chippa United is upbeat ahead of the trip to Maritzburg on Tuesday, 29 November 2016 for the Absa Premiership clash against Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Port Elizabeth-based side has suffered three straight defeats in their last three Absa Premiership encounters, but there was an air of confidence following a result against Orlando Pirates at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Chilli Boys showed fighting spirit and were unlucky to lose the game where once again they enjoyed more ball possession.

The entire team gathered at the centre circle after the energy sipping 90 minutes joined by the Executive Chairman, Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi who had only encouraging words for the players and the Technical Team.

Chippa United no. 2 Mbuyiselo Sambu speaking to on Monday morning said it is all systems go for the trip to Maritzburg where the team collected maximum points last season;

“Preparations for the game have gone quite well. We have a training session again later today. We must improve quite number of things from our game against Orlando Pirates.

“We worked on different formations, organisation, and patience from the players. The performance has been good we just need to work on few aspects including confidence of the players.

“We appreciate support of everyone in the team including our supporters. We have to keep on doing what is required of us as the Technical Team, to come up with solutions and encourage the players.

Injuries to top players have not helped Chippa United cause but Sambu affectionately known as ‘Viera’ during his playing days refused to be discouraged; “We had to change the team couple times due to injuries to the likes of (Thamsanqa) Sangweni, Andile Mbenyane and Vusi Mncube but we have confidence on each and every player in the squad. We have few options and it is an opportunity for others to raise their hand.

Maritzburg United can be stubborn and Sambu is aware that it will be a difficult game; “We are playing a tough side in Maritzburg and they will be looking to do well at home.

“We have our own objectives though going to this game and once again we will walk to the field with one objective to win and defend the Chippa United emblem,” added Sambu.
