Head Coach, Daniel ‘Dance’ Malesela was pleased with his side’s last gasp win against Baroka FC, but warned that the team needs to address the “negatives” in their game.
The Port Elizabeth-based side needed to come from one goal behind to best Baroka FC at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday, 07 February 2017.
“This is a big concern for me,” said Malesela highlighting his side “negatives”.
“It is important for us to anticipate situations better, more especially in a centre back position.
“I know, I played there. It is my ‘home’ (the centre back position). We need to react better, but I also understand that it is a relatively new pairing even though they have played together in the past,” continued Malesela.
The Pretoria-born coach was all smiles at the end of what he called an energy-sipping and rather physical 90 minutes.
“I am not sure if it was an energy-sipping encounter from a physical point of view.
“It is was very key for us to win this game and start climbing the log table.
“We were up against a team that is below us on the league log table, and so it makes the win very important going to the next game against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Malesela also paid a tribute to his captain Thami Sangweni,” His game had more more good moments as compared to bad moments.
“We know he is more of a sitting midfielder, but he took responsibility when he saw an opportunity to draw us level. It was a very good goal,” added Malesela.
Chippa United moved to 8th position in the league log table and will next welcome Mamelodi Sundowns at Sisa Dukashe on Tuesday, 14 February 2017.
